C. Daniel Myers, Associate Professor of Political Science
Welcome! I’m C. Daniel Myers, an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Minnesota. My research sits at the intersection of political psychology, public opinion, and political communication. I’m currently focused on two key areas.
- My work on partisan stereotypes investigates who we imagine “Republicans” and “Democrats” to be, and what happens when those assumptions are challenged.
- My work on local news examines the differences in how local news and national news cover politics, and the effects that these differences have on how we view politics.
My earlier research explored the effects of new political institutions inspired by deliberative theories of democracy. Methodologically, I am interested in how to draw causal inference in political science research, especially using experiments. My goal is to provide accessible insights into American politics for a wide audience—from fellow academics to journalists and the general public—and contribute to a more nuanced understanding of our democracy.
